Answers from One of our Readers
|
We have been vacationing in the
Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area for about 20
years. Now that we are retired we
have decided to make Orange Beach our
"winter"
home. There are many reasons for selecting
Orange Beach; 1) It is
easy to get to
from our home in Illinois. 2) The winters are mild--warm for any outdoors activities. 3) The beaches are the prettiest we've ever
seen. 4) The restaurants are great with plenty of
variety & reasonable prices. 5)There are things to do for everyone,
depending on ones interests. 6) The
proximity to
New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile & Pensacola is
great. 7) We have a
fantastic
Outlet Mall in Foley. 8) There are plenty of interesting shops &
things to do along the beach
areas, but it's still in good taste & not
overly crowded or tacky
looking. 9) Last, but not least, the people who
come here & those who
live here are very warm & friendly ---
southern hospitality is at its
best! We've probably over done it, but that is why we
go, where we go & keep coming
back,
year after year. WE LOVE IT!!

The Lure of the Gulf Coast
|
The lure of the
northern Gulf Coast What is it about the Gulf Coast that makes it such a great place
to live or visit? The reasons are many. The thousands who annually vacation here can readily
attest to its attractions, but what about the millions more who have never had
the privilege? Our coverage area is a region of more than 300 miles from the antebellum
homes and casinos of the Mississippi Gulf Coast eastward along the beaches
of Alabama and Northwest Florida. Along this route rests the area's signature sugar white beaches along
with endless bays, bayous, creeks and rivers.

Seniors
Discover the Joys of Email |
It used to be a young person's
medium: Email usage was cutting edge and hip to users
and a mystery to non-users. Seniors, however, have
discovered that sending and receiving email is not
complicated and they are using it's power to stay
connected to friends and family, especially when they
are away from home for several winter months. While some seniors travel with
laptop computers or utilize email features on their cell
phones, many are utilizing an
age-old favorite for information, our public libraries.

Beaches Among Nation's Best
|
Florida's preservation efforts have paid off for panhandle beaches. The
2000 rankings from "Dr. Beach" place three panhandle beach areas in the
nation's top 20. St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park ranked second in the Dr.
Stephen Leatherman's annual poll with St. George Island 11th and Perdido
Key 14th. For the

When Every Second Counts
|
When
time is of an essence, it's comforting to know that an
air ambulance is available. The recent tragic shark
attack upon little Jessie Arbogast brought this valuable
service nationwide attention. Here we have a look at two
local air ambulance services,
Baptist
Health Care's Life Flight and new air
ambulance service for fast-growing Walton County, Fla.,
Sacred Heart Health System's AIR-Heart 1 Helicopter.

Bratfest
A Gulf Shores Snowbird Tradition |
|
What started as a small
fundraiser four years ago for the local fire
department has turned into a major annual event
in Gulf Shores, Ala.
Several
hundred Snowbirds from 10 area clubs will
descended on the Meyer Civic Center in Gulf Shores
to lend a hand cooking, serving and cleaning up
after several thousand Snowbirds and community
members at the “Bratfest”.
More than 4000
“Brats”, were served and
thousands of dollars generated for Alabama Gulf
Coast-area fire stations.

Casino Resort
Spotlight
|

Hollywood Casino Bay St. Louis, formerly
Casino Magic, opened its doors recently to
the delight of a sea of new and loyal
patrons returning for the first time since
the storm damaged casino closed last year.
Casino cast members enthusiastically greeted
the guests with cheers of joy, hugs and hand
shakes as the crowd made their way across
the casino floor. Tribute actors resembling
Marilyn Monroe, May West, James Dean, Joan
Rivers, and Clark Gable greeted patrons and
struck poses with players who brought their
cameras and picture phones for the long
awaited opening.
“We are absolutely overwhelmed with the loyalty of our customers and can’t
express how much we appreciate seeing them,”
said Marty Moore, senior director of
marketing for Hollywood Casino.
The new
multi-million dollar land based temporary
casino opened the Hollywood Hotel offering
291 guest rooms, 900 new slot machines, 20
unique table games, and a new 6-table poker
room. Three restaurants are now open
including, Tuscany Steaks and Seafood,
Jackpot Java, and the all new Epic Buffet.
The Bridge’s Clubhouse Grill will reopen
with the Bridges Golf Course in
mid-October.
The fully
renovated casino operation has 17,000 square
feet of function space and three private
meeting rooms.
